Minimize the Noise: Methods to Reduce Cognitive Load

The Information Age informs us that more is better. However, when it comes to learning, we often find the contrary to be the case: that less can be more...
Because of our brain's cognitive load limit, we are only able to focus on and learn a finite number of things from a screen, slide, or page. Thus, the old adage still rings true, that a picture is worth a thousand words.
The problem for most instructional designers is achieving balance: in content, graphics, motion, and placement.
At our new expert webinar, we’ll discuss what part cognitive load plays in how people learn and retain information and how to give people the content they need without overloading them.
In this session, you'll learn:
- What cognitive load is and why it matters
- How to minimize cognitive load and increase learner retention
- How to better engage learners using animations, color, and graphics
- How to find the right balance between content and graphics
You’ll understand how you can stimulate your audience’s brain functions to maintain a high level of engagement. We’ll also look at some real-life examples that illustrate cognitive overload problems and discuss what corrections you would make to reduce the load.
Audience:
Designers, developers, and managers
