Name something that:

  • Businesses don’t believe in
  • Employees despise
  • Doesn’t do what it’s supposed to
  • Businesses spend billions on globally

Do you know what it is?

It’s eLearning!

Over the past 10-15 years, rapid authoring tools and a myriad of online tools have made eLearning more accessible (and amazing) than ever. Yet, so much of what L&D produces still delivers so little in the form of business results. How is it possible that we can do more than ever before and yet we’re still not getting anything out of it? And, more importantly, why do businesses keep investing in it?

When we examine the state of the eLearning industry we see three (3) significant challenges:

  1. A Downward Spiral. A lack of results → leads to less support → leads to less budget → leads to a lack of results.
  2. The Wrong Focus. An emphasis on the learners’ experience, instead of business results.
  3. Stand Alone Solutions. Treating a 30-minute course as the solution to a systemic issue.

Let’s examine each of these issues and discuss how to interrupt the spiral, refocus in the right direction, and build complete solutions that solve real business problems.

The bigger the company, the bigger the need for training — from onboarding new hires to upskilling teams and educating customers. But here’s the challenge: hiring external instructional designers eats up the budget, and training internal teams takes months.
