How to convert a published presentation into an .exe file

Sometimes, .exe files can come in handy when you’re working on a computer without an Internet connection, conducting examinations for students or employees in a classroom, or if you want to share a course with your students without giving them a chance to access the project folder with all the resources. For these purposes, EXE Packager, a free utility, was developed by iSpring. With its help, you can instantly convert a published course into .exe format and get just one single file.

Follow these steps to convert a published presentation to an .exe file:

  1. Download EXE Packager.

  2. Your presentation must be published to HTML5 format in order to convert it to .exe format. To do so:

    • Open your course in PowerPoint, go to the iSpring Suite 9 tab and click Publish;

      Publication button

    • Select My Computer from the left menu, enter the destination directory, customize all the settings, and click Publish;

      Publish presentation

  3. Find the published folder and drag it to the EXE Packager icon. Make sure the folder has an index.html file inside;

  4. The conversion process will start, and then you’ll see a new .exe file with your presentation. After the conversion, the presentation will remain in the same HTML5 format, but will now be boxed up into a single .exe file. This .exe file will be able to play the course, regardless of the browser installed in your system.

  5. Launch the .exe file and check how your presentation looks now.

Tip: If you want to send an .exe file by email, keep in mind that many email providers (for example, Gmail) block .exe files. Use the following workaround to prevent an .exe file from being deleted from the email: before sending the email, rename the file and change the .exe extension to .txt . After these steps, your file won’t be blocked by the recipient's email server. Before launching the file, the recipient must rename it by adding the .exe extension back.
